Individual guest reviews for Topaz Hotel

I thought that the hotel was somewhat frowzy and long overdue for renovation. As well, our room smelt very sulphurous (Think bad eggs!). The provision of one blanket per person was insufficient - why don't they have duvets as nearly every other country in the world has these days?
Having stayed elsewhere in Bugibba last year I found the hotel's location difficult. It was a long, tortuous, walk to the beach and leisure area and it was difficult to find our way back on foot.
The breakfast room resembled a cheap cafeteria which was off putting - the food looked good however and there was plenty of choice.
The staff were good but the hotel's computer took forever to carry out any sort of function.

good breakfast,cosy bar

there was a total mess in the underground toilets,by the pool.and there are extra silly charges for little things, and staff should be a bit smarter.

The unit was ‘run down’ & dirty. The bed/settee was sticky & covered in sand. Reception was advised about this twice, but nothing was done about it. As this is a ground floor unit, when the curtains were opened there was no privacy at all, only ‘blackout curtains’ fitted, people next to the pool, less than 2 metres away, looking in all the time, we kept the curtains closed & left the resort for most of the day, returning only for the evening outdoor entertainment, which we enjoyed. We had to report that the toilet seat was not fixed down & incomplete twice, to the same person; even then it was not properly sorted. There does not seem to be an extractor fan in the toilet, but there is a window. This opens out into a waste pipe chamber & the stench coming from it ensured that we kept this window closed at all times. Also, there is no car park & nearby street parking is almost impossible.
Hotel's Comments:
We are not perfect but I assure you that we are not Dirty . We do not accept this comment ! you may direct any of your local representatives to pay a surprise visit at any time. Claiming he had sand in his room I very much wonder from where it came since we are not at ay point close to the beach. If the guest went to a sea side and returned with his clothes, bags and personal effects full of sand , cleaning up the room is not good enough since each and every time you get out the bags or shoes or any item you had
when you went to the beach, sand still falls off .
Regarding the rooms situated at ground level and overlooking the pool , I find it very hard to swallow that the guests at the pool instead of enjoining themselves sun bathing, relaxing and looking out at the pool proffered to look into this guest room all the time. If I wanted more privacy , I would have asked for a room change we would have done our best to accommodate and make guests happy.
Malta is part of the European union and is obliged to EU Rules. Contrary to what guest is claiming there is an extractor in the bath room and this according to health and safety requirements. The little window in the bath
room is used for our workmen to go into to repair Drainage , hot and cold pipes which are situated in the shaft servicing about 24 rooms .
Regarding car park the guest is right we do not have a car park around the hotel . The hotel is flanked on each side by 4 streets around it and it is situated right in the middle. It is also good to state that we never ever mention that we have a car park .

Not at standard expected for 4-star hotel. Very old furniture.
Hotel's Comments:
Although we are listed as 4 star Property we are much more of a 3 Star plus. Regarding Furniture , this is not of the latest designs, However , we assure you that it is clean and functional.

Poor, stuck out in annexe and took ages and 3 lifts to get to pool. Furniture in room was dirty and shabby. Impossible to get onto the internet as constantly booked out. Staff at reception did not appear to have any information about anything and were slow attending to patrons. Would not return here as there are far better hotels for the same money in this area. Evening entertainment was dire.
Hotel's Comments:
Unfortunately mechanical faults do happen and we cannot predict when they are going ton happen . Any lift is triggered to block itself whenever health and security is at risk . Contrary to what guest is claiming the Lift technician went to the scene immediately and took only a couple of minutes to open up the lift. The hotel is a big hotel with 8 lifts .
The decor of the rooms is not of the latest . However , cleaning is carried out and supervised daily .
We have 3 internet stations and to be honest this is the first time we hear that it is slow. Our service provider is a leading company and has a very good reputation. Besides we never had any problems .
The hotel has 402 rooms and at the time these guest were clients at the Topaz the hotel was at full capacity with over 850 guests. Our reception can answer to any request depending the nature of the question. The hotel forms part of a group and training is carried out regularly by the Group human rescourses manager. The group owns 4 hotels the Dolmen, The Topaz , The Halland and the Hilton. Besides The Topaz offers very good value for money.
Contrary to what guest is claiming that the evening entertainment was very poor , However other guests, such as one of the above guest "Purcell" states that he very much enjoyed evening entertainment.
