ChooseMalta has compiled a list of what we believe to be the Top 10 Dive sites in Malta and Gozo.

#1 Um El Faroud (Malta) - Max Depth: 36m
The Um El Faroud is a spectacular dive. A huge tanker which is 115 metres in length. Weighing 10,000 tons, its depth from the bridge is 18 metres and 25 metres from the main deck. With just a short swim from shore to the boat, divers can take in the surrounding sea life and perhaps even have the opportunity to spot squid, barracuda and large schools of sea bream. For the experienced wreck diver, the boat can be easily entered.

#2 Lantern Point (Comino) - Max Depth: 50
A boat dive, that starts in only 6m of water. There is a vertical tunnel referred to as a 'chimney' that drops to 16m. Full of fire-worms, this tunnel is large enough to accommodate one diver at a time. Once you have gone through the tunnel there are a number of large boulders behind a large rock that lead to a slope of about 50m. This is home to large groupers as well as plenty of other local marine life.

#3 St. Maria Caves (Comino) - Max Depth: 20m
Santa Maria Caves are a great dive for those who like to interact with the sea life. If you have the chance take down some bread and feed the schools of fish that surround you with great interest. The caves are wonderful too, some are lit by natural light and provide you with spectacular photography. You will have the chance to spot octopus, small groupers and moray eels.

#4 Rozi Tug boat (Malta) - Max Depth: 36m
The Rozi is a fun dive. An old tugboat, 40m in length, that was sunk purposely for diving. Approximately 135m from shore, the boat sits upright on the sand and can be entered for a quick look inside. Having been there since 1991, the boat has much to see, and is surrounded by numerous fish that will keep you entertained throughout your dive. This is also a great dive to do at night.

#5 Dwejra (Gozo) - Max Depth: 60m
Dwejra Point is one of the most spectacular dives. A deep dive that offers a number of caves, and has an abundance of marine life that can be seen through the crystal clear waters. There is a 35m long tunnel that leads you to the open sea with a sudden drop off point that makes the depths rather deceptive.

#6 Blue Hole (Gozo) - Max Depth: 50m
The Blue Hole is a shore dive that involves a rather awkward walk across some rough terrain but has been made a little easier with steps that have been carved into the rock. Upon entering the hole, one will notice that it is only about 10m wide and 5m across. However, access to the open sea is just a few metres away through a huge archway. There is also a large cave waiting to be explored at the bottom of the hole. There are various fish and starfish that can be seen as well as good opportunities for photography.

#7 Reqqa Point (Gozo) - Max Depth: 60m
Although the entry can be difficult especially if there is a swell, it is worth the hassle. A reef with a parapet at a depth of 30m has a drop down to 60m. At only 15m this dive is full of interesting things. The nutrient-rich waters provide a great place to take in the day- to-day goings on of a reef with feeding frenzies and large groupers to be viewed. There are also large caves that can be viewed as well as a deeper dive if required.

#8 Cirkewwa(Malta) - Max Depth: 36m
This is one of the popular dives amongst the locals. This dive has a number of caves and a stunning arch that is actually part of a cavern with a hole in the top that can be accessed. The dive has a huge drop from 8m to 30m, providing a wall that can be explored for various marine life.

#9 Blenheim (Malta) - Max Depth: 42m
The Bleinheim, a World War 2 bomber, is a dive that provides you with a little history. The engines and wings of the plane are intact but the fuselage and fore-section have been separated from the main body, but can still be seen a few metres away. This dive goes down to 42m so requires thought and timing but is definitely worth the time.

#10 Ghar Lapsi (Malta) - Max Depth: 30m
Ghar Lapsi is a fishing village in the South of Malta. This is an easy dive, accessing the water is straightforward and the depth ranges between 15-20m. One of the shallower dives that also has a number of naturally lit caves and reefs that are home to the Mediterranean marine life.
