If you desire accommodation with a difference, perhaps something a little more personal that makes you feel at home yet is unlike anything you know. |
A Gozo farmhouse is the Maltese equivalent of a cottage in England or a chalet in Switzerland. Farmhouses in Malta and Gozo are very different to any you will have seen before.
They are charaterised by their age and structure. In most cases Gozo farmhouses tend to be over 150 years old some of which reach over 300 years. As the name explains in their early days, they were used purely for farming and housing of cattle and livestock. Nowadays it has become increasingly fashionable to restore the old features of these houses in such a way that they are habitable and comfortable whilst containing all the essential ingredients for day-to-day living.
The houses were built from limestone, with arches that draw your eye to the perfectly designed roof, and old troughs in the windows that once fed the animals. Old handmade tiles can often be found to cover the large floors which add colour to the sand-coloured walls.
Depending on the age of the house, sometimes one can find a loft like room with very little light and a low ceiling that was once used as a birthing room. There are few of these left and so they are protected.
Malta and Gozo Holidays are all about having a good time and it is up to you to choose in what way. Hotels have their benefits but can have limiting factors. It is up to you to choose the type of Gozo farmhouse that you stay in, there is a choice between a garden with a swimming pool or spectacular views of the sea or valleys or even a little bit of all thrown into one.
A Gozo farmhouse is great to stay in if you have children or are a large group as some have as many as 6 bedrooms, or perhaps even a couple that wish to have some quality time together alone. They cater for all your needs and really show you the true side of the Maltese way of life.
