Tree for you (34U)
The extent of the vegetation cover and natural habitats in the Maltese Islands has been drastically reduced by centuries of human habitation. Large areas of woodland have been cleared to make way for agriculture and other forms of land development in a country where such resources are very limited.
We all acknowledge that trees serve as our planet's lungs, they provide shelter, produce Oxygen and protect the world's climate by absorbing Carbon Dioxide. In one year, a single tree can absorb as much carbon as is produced by a car covering 42,000 Km.
The Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs has initiated a campaign giving people the opportunity to make a difference by participating in local afforestation projects. The trees will be planted in one of the afforestation sites around the Maltese Islands.
The 34U Campaign enables you to participate and contribute towards making Malta greener place to live in.
